Tree of Life and Death

A sketch…of a tree. Deer…for the totem who watched over the baby, who was the spirit inside me for 11 weeks. Owl for the totem who watched over us as he passed on to the Summerland, who helped take him there safely and comforted me when he was gone. Butterflies, for a summer that illustrated the fleeting beauty of life and the transformation of death that we all undergo. And finally, a baby left at the base of the Tree of Life and Death. In a past life, I tried to hide a baby by a tree, to save him maybe but we were found and killed. And so again, I leave a baby at the gateway and hope that someday he will come back to me, in this life or another.
